This week have a great one that came out of the Philippines during the Vietnam action movie boom of the eighties.  Half Ninja flick, half Vietnam commando adventure, this one is a lot more successful and coherent than a Godfrey Ho production, but still provides some good laughs as well..........

ULTIMAX FORCE (1986)

     Four ninjas are selected for an important mission, but first they must go through a hardcore test to prove their ultimate skills in ninjitsu combat.  When all four of them make it through the test alive, they find out that one of their fellow warriors is a POW who is still being held in Vietnam.  Their mission is to go in, infiltrate the camp, and bring home their friend and any other missing soldiers.

     After gathering the information and equipment they need, the team arrange a flight into Laos to begin their quest.  These ninja warriors are also hardened soldiers and their arsenal includes machine guns as well as swords.  As they make their way through the jungle, the Vietcong body count climbs as they slash, shoot, and blow-up their way to the POW camp.


     Willy Milan (W is War) directs this truly unique Ninja and Namsploitation hybrid and fills it with enough punch-ups, showdowns, shootouts and explosions to satisfy a fan of either genre.

NEON CITY (DVD) Post-apocalyptic road trip with Michael Ironside

This weeks release is one we tracked down for our friend Anders who loves all thing post-apocalyptic and nuclear.  We were able to find some rare art that was cleaned up to make a killer sleeve and we also created a new logo that is truer to the original opening title sequence.  Last but not least - this early nineties gem stars a personal favourite Michael "REVOK" Ironside..........

NEON CITY (1991)

     It is the year 2053, earth has been devastated by a military experiment gone awry and the inhabitants have been divided into diseased mutants and healthy people. With the ozone layer now gone, radioactive clouds drift across the plains, and unpredictable, intense bursts of ultra-violet sunlight incinerate anyone caught outside. 


     A bounty hunter has to transport a tough lady outlaw from the frontier town of Jericho to the paradise safe haven of Neon City.  Along with six civilians who are totally unprepared for the dangerous journey, the bounty hunter and his prisoner board an armored transport vehicle driven by an ex-con.  To get to the city they will all be forced to battle for their lives as they pass though radioactive clouds, unstable paved roads, and nomadic motorcycle riders who kill anyone venturing though their territory.


     This entertaining post-apocalyptic romp has a great B-movie cast including Michael Ironside (Scanners), Vanity (The Last Dragon), and former NFL defensive linesman, the late great Lyle Alzado.  The Hughes Brothers must have taken a look at this film at some point as it has some similarities to their film, The Book of Eli.

CLASH OF THE NINJAS (1986)

     A ruthless ninja is heading up an evil organization thats main business is the illegal selling of human organs.   Trouble arises on the organ farm when the kidnapped human guinea pigs begin to riot when they realize their fate upon arrival.  The truth is beginning to unravel, but the organization will do anything to protect its secret activities.  All who rebel are killed with no mercy.

     An agent of justice who was taught by the same master as the evil ninja leader is assigned to crack the illegal organization.  His one-man journey is filled with danger at every turn as he battles against incridible odds to take revenge.  In a thrilling climax, the stage is set for a epic showdown when the two arch rival ninjas finally get to go at it in an ultimate death clash of ninja mayhem.


     Godfrey Ho delivers another Z-grade martial arts masterpiece in this highly sought-after exercise in ninja insanity.  FIlled with a surprising amount of blood and gore, this gem also has contains all the hilarious outfits, dialogue, dubbing and music that you would expect from a Ho production.

OPEN HOUSE (DVD) rare '80s giallo style slasher

Hope everyone had a great July 4th and Canada Day.  This week we have a rare slasher our friend Seth suggested we track down and we thought it would be a good release honoring a weekend that has people going from house to house partying.......

OPEN HOUSE (1987)

     Beverly Hills real estate agents and their clients are being viciously murdered at an astonishing rate.  The only person who has any kind of lead is radio talk show psychologist who solicits his audience's reaction to the murder.  Amid the barrage of phone calls comes one from someone who states with frightening conviction that the murder victims deserved to be killed.

Meanwhile, the psychologist's girlfriend become very frightened since she is the most successful realtor in town, making her and her staff prime targets. Her competition becomes smaller and smaller as more people are killed, bringing the murderer dangerously close. 


This late '80s slasher draws upon giallo style techniques by keeping the killers appearance a mystery as well as his motive.  Along with Adrienne Barbeau (The Fog, Esacpe from New York), Creepshow) shedding her clothes, this film features some creative kills including a hanging with a garden hose, brutal electrocution, and an attack with a razor-bladed toilet-plunger.

LAST PLATOON (DVD) Vietnam war action with Richard Hatch and Donlad Pleasence

We have even more 'namsploitation this week, the counterpart to LEATHERNECKS we released a few weeks back, also directed by Ignazio Dolce and starring Richard Hatch. This one is a little more serious in tone, but an entertaining Vietnam action flick none-the-less. 

Another bit of news, we did our fist test run of a trading card for SCORPION THUNDERBOLT.  We will be putting these in every order from now on and when they are gone, they are gone.  As soon as we can get it all organized, we will be printing up a series of 31 new cards and will be including various ones in all orders for free..........

LAST PLATOON (1988)

     When his Vietnamese girlfriend disappears, an ex-cop who is a highly decorated war hero accepts a risky mission after deciding he has nothing to loose.  The dangerous mission is go to the Vietnamese border and blow up a bridge which will close the Vietcong's line of communication.

     He's given a group of prisoners to accompany him that includes some cons he had previously arrested back in his police force days. As soon as they head out, their helicopter is shot down and the march through the deadly jungles of Vietnam begins. When his soldiers recognize that they are effectively on a suicide mission, they band together and start to make plans to defect.


     Actor-turned director Ignazio Dolce (Leathernecks) again teams up with star Richard Hatch (Capt. Apollo in the original Battlestar Galactica) for another spaghetti war flick, but this time aims for a more realistic, gritty feel than Rambo-style exploitation. Donald Pleasence (Halloween) also stars and it is written by the prolific Italian screenwriter Tito Carpi.

DEATH WARMED UP (DVD) zombie lobotomy gore horror from New Zealand

Wow - it has been awhile since we were able to add another zombie flick to the collection.  Not like your standard zombie fare, this interesting little film is apparently New Zealand's first feature horror production and was made 3 years before Peter Jackson finished his first feature BAD TASTE.  Look for a cameo of Braindead's Uncle Les as the ferry driver......

DEATH WARMED UP (1984)

     A deranged scientist is conducting experimental brain procedures on human test subjects in his secret lab on a remote island. Many of his test subjects suffer from extreme side effects caused by the procedures and transform into murderous blood-thirsty zombies.

     Arriving on the island is a group of youths that include the son of the scientist's chief rival. Ten years earlier, the mad doctor had hypnotized his rival's son to make him murder his own father.  Now, under the guise of a vacation, the young man has come back to track down the evil scientist and make him pay for his crimes on the human brain.

     This bizarre horror film from New Zealand is a kind of loose interpretation of the legendary "Island of Dr. Moreau" tale.  From the supremely nasty shotgun killings right at the beginning to the repugnant brain surgeries, impalement and juicy zombie make-up effects throughout, this a feature that delivers on the gore as well as atmosphere and style.

PHANTOM SOLDIERS (DVD) ultra-violent Vietnam War exploitation bloodbath

Nothing says summer like more 'namsploitation, and this week we have one of the most infamous ones ever made.  The opening sequence alone is worth the price of admission, but the bullets keep on flying through out the film making for a truly epic example of the genre.............

PHANTOM SOLDIERS (1987)

     A squad of black-clad soldiers armed to the teeth and wearing gas masks storm a Vietnamese fishing village and mercilessly slaughter everyone in their path. After enough huts are ravaged in balls of flame, the evil platoon round the few remaining civilians at the edge of their villages beach to exterminate them promptly with nerve gas.

     A Green Beret leads a team to track down these mysterious soldiers that are causing the rampant escalation in violence, but ends up getting captured by them in the process.

     Meanwhile a Texas Ranger (No Dead Hero's Max Thayer) is leading a quite life away from the war when he receives a message that his brother, the Green Beret, is missing in action. He immediately springs into action and heads to the war torn jungles of Vietnam to stop the infamous heavily armed battalion and take back his captured sibling.

     This ultra-violent exercise in exploitation is a colossal bloodbath with one of the biggest body counts in the Filipino-made Vietnam war film genre. Director Teddy Page utilizes every dollar of his budget to film his explosive action scenes that feature excellent cinematography and gunfight choreography.
